When life hands you lemons…
What are your options?
How about using this natural, versatile fruit to clean around your home?
Did you know that lemons are commonly used to clean such household items as the microwave oven, chopping boards, blenders, garbage disposals and many others?
Here are some great tips for using lemons around your home!
Microwave – Heat a bowl of water with lemon slices in your microwave for about 45 seconds and then wipe down the inside of the microwave as stains will be easier to remove. (extra tip – this also works as a great odor neutralizer if you have been cooking smelly foods in your microwave).
Chopping Boards – If your wood or plastic chopping board has picked up odors, rub half a lemon over the surface and wash clean (for best results leave overnight) . The lemon also helps to kill off any remaining germs.
Blender – If your blender jug suffers from any hard water build-up, then simply blend a lemon with a little dishwashing soap and water to get it sparkling again.
Garbage Disposal – Okay so the lemon may need a little help with this one – Use ice cubes and some lemon peels to clean out your garbage disposal. The ice cubes sharpen the disposal blades and the lemon peels neutralize the odors.
Dishwasher – Add a teaspoon of lemon juice to your dishwashing detergent to help boost grease cutting power.
Fridge – Half a lemon stored in your fridge will help control and eliminate unpleasant odors (change on a weekly basis).
Lemons can also be used in other areas of the home such as your bathroom, just put lemon juice on a sponge and wipe down shower doors to remove soap scum or spray fresh lemon juice on hard water scale build-up near faucets and then rinse after 10 minutes.
Lemons can also be utilized with various other products such as baking soda to clean and polish chrome, brass, copper and to remove rust.
So there you have it when life hands you lemons you can either clean your home or make lemonade!
